The Seoul city bus union will begin its first strike today (28th). The first Seoul bus strike in 12 years is expected to cause inconvenience to citizens on their way to work.

The Seoul city bus union declared the breakdown of negotiations around 2 a.m. and went on strike at 4 a.m. Labor and management held a mediation meeting at the Seoul Regional Labor Relations Commission from around 3 p.m. on the 27th, the previous day, but ultimately failed to reach an agreement despite marathon negotiations lasting over 11 hours.

The city of Seoul immediately began implementing emergency transportation measures starting with the first train at 4 a.m. on this day. The subway will extend rush hours by one hour, and late-night operating hours will also be extended by one hour until 2 a.m. next month. Additionally, a total of 480 free shuttle buses will be deployed in 25 autonomous districts to connect with subway stations.

Subway congestion hours will be adjusted to 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and additional trains will be added. The last train time will be extended until 2 a.m. next month based on the final station, with a total of 202 additional shuttle buses, and 480 free shuttle buses for subway connections will be operated on a total of 119 routes, for a total of 4,959 times per day.
