The mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez, made a strong complaint against the previous Afinia administration. According to Gutiérrez, they sold the management to change of 8 million dollars.
“(A man) stated that he witnessed how the management of Afinia was sold in 2021 in exchange for a scandalous figure, 8 million dollars, a business agreed upon, according to this, by the government of (Daniel) Quintero and a questioned former congressman. He informed us that a person linked to the famous contracting carousel of the United States was involved in this illegal sale. Moreno Rojas in Bogotáand that today he is in prison for acts of corruption,” said the mayor during a press conference.
The president of EPM expanded the alleged testimony, which is already before the Attorney General’s Office. “The witness also indicated that a group of Venezuelan businessmen participated, who were part of the corruption network. We have names that have been given to the FGeneral Prosecutor’s Office of the Nation and that we will not make publicly known so as not to contaminate the investigations.”

Mayor Federico Gutiérrez He was referring to the former manager of Afinia, Javier Lastra, who arrived at the company in 2021. At the press conference, the Mayor Fico Gutiérrez assured that the National government must intervene and support because otherwise the operation of the energy service in 5 departments of the Caribbean region would be put at risk, including the department of Cesar.
“As District administration and as EPM We are taking strong measures to address this crisis that has been caused by poor administration, since Afinia is in a financial situation that urgently requires calling the National government to find solutions. If not, we will have a crisis in the subsidiary that will affect the energy service in five departments of the Caribbean coast in the immediate future,” said Gutiérrez.
