Severe Weather in Dallas – Fort Worth: Some storms and wind expected east of the Metroplex

Severe Weather Watch Cancelled in Parts of Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex

After an early morning of strong storms and small hail, the tornado watch has been canceled for several counties east of the Metroplex, including Delta, Fannin, Hunt, Lamar, and Rockwall. Meteorologist Nelly Carreño reported the arrival of a strong line of storms in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on January 12, with small hail being reported by viewers.

The risk of severe weather is associated with the entry of a first cold front, different from the arctic cold expected on Saturday night and Sunday morning. While the risk of severe weather remains minimal in Dallas-Fort Worth, a risk level of 2 – slight – is expected in the east, particularly in areas such as Mesquite, Kaufman, Waxahacie, Corsicana, and Paris, especially in the early morning with thunderstorms and the possibility of small hail.

Additionally, wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour are expected, and while the danger of a tornado is low, it is not zero. Meteorologist Nelly Carreño recommends that residents can still engage in outdoor activities on Friday, as the weather will not be as cold as expected for the weekend.

The National Weather Service has also issued warnings about the dangers of being in a car during a tornado, emphasizing that it is the most unsafe place to be during a natural phenomenon of this type. Drivers are advised to stop their cars out of traffic, wear seat belts, crouch under the windows with their arms above their heads, and if possible, find a place with a slope where they can jump and take cover. In 2015, a tornado claimed the lives of 8 drivers in Garland, highlighting the deadly risks of driving during a tornado warning.

Residents are urged to exercise caution and stay updated on weather alerts as the risk of severe weather persists in certain areas.
