The Dolomiti Cadore Ski Club says it is enthusiastic about the collaboration started with former champion Pietro Vitalini
SAN VITO. Skiing without snow is possible. In San Vito, until the end of the month, you can ski on a slope made of Neveplast synthetic material.
This is not a common ski slope for tourists, but a purely competitive setting: a concept conceived by Neveplast, a Bergamo-based company specialized in the construction of plastic ski slopes, designed specifically to train the starts from the gate of the athletes of the alpine skiing and snowboarding, even in summer, as an alternative to trips to the glacier.
The track, with a ramp dedicated to the start, was set up at the NeveSole park. The ascent of the athletes during training is guaranteed by a treadmill.
The project called “Vitalini Start Contest powered by Neveplast”, named after the main actors, was welcomed with great enthusiasm by the Dolomiti Cadore Ski club, which wanted to give its athletes but also all the ski clubs in the neighboring areas a gym summer, skis on your feet, to become more and more competitive in view of the winter racing season.
“It was a great challenge, with an accelerated pace, but we did it,” says Stefano Sommacal, president of the Dolomiti Cadore Ski Club.
«When Pietro Vitalini presented the project to us», says president Sommcal, «we liked it immediately, even if in these periods it takes courage to plan and carry out any event. After seeing the smile from ear to ear of the coach of our ski club who first tested the slope, all of a sudden my tiredness passed and I realized that the sacrifices made would pay off. The track is now operational. In addition to our athletes, we expect great participation from the many ski clubs in the area and from the city ski clubs that train in San Vito or Cortina during the winter ».
“I think the solution devised by Neveplast to train the exit from the gate is fantastic,” explains Sommacal. «To improve the start the only way is to repeat the technical gesture and during the winter or summer on the glacier you never do it. Thanks goes to the San Vito ski area », Sommacal concludes,« which made the area of the NeveSole park available to us and above all to Pietro Vitalini for having involved us in this beautiful adventure ».
The guys are trying the pistino with enthusiasm and on Saturday there will be the “Vitalini Start contest powered by Neveplast”, a race dedicated to the start and the speed of exit from the gate.
“After the success of the first summer edition of the Start contest in Falcade”, underlines Pietro Vitaini, the champion who after retiring from the competitive scene founded Vitalini Performance Ski Wear, a brand of excellence in the technical clothing sector, “with Neveplast we thought of re-propose the event in an itinerant version. We liked the idea of bringing the track and organizing the Start contest from north to south in various locations in the boot in collaboration with the Italian ski clubs. The project was and is ambitious. Unfortunately these days we have to deal with problems that do not depend on our will and our organizational capacity. We are very happy to have started with the first stop in San Vito ».
Saturday will therefore be the challenge that will reward the fastest and most explosive to get out of the gate and walk the first meters after the start. –
