Before the World Hockey Championship, it seemed that the post of goalkeeper would be Slovakia’s weakness. A trio from the Slovak extra league traveled to the tournament.

Samuel Hlavaj, Stanislav Škorvánek and Dominik Riečický never played in the senior world championships. The most experienced Riečický caught three matches in the national team.

But everything has changed. Goalkeeper Škorvánek finally played a key role in the 2:1 victory over Latvia, which may be crucial from the point of view of the prospects for the quarterfinals. He also received the award for the best Slovak hockey player of the match.

He performed several interventions, which were also selected by the International Hockey Federation for short videos on social networks as the best moments of the match.

“In my opinion, the issue of the goalkeeping unit is resolved,” Marián Gáborík told RTVS.

He didn’t make his mark in the extra league for a long time either

However, coach Craig Ramsay indicated that Škorvánek will not be in the next match
