On March 24, Yirleana Lorena Moreno Cuesta, a human rights defender in Quibdó, was murdered. She was a member of the network of mothers and caregivers of young victims of homicides in Quibdó.
Through its Twitter account (X), the United Nations (UN) Office for Human Rights in Colombia regretted the murder of Yirleana Lorena and called on the authorities and the Prosecutor’s Office to clarify the homicide, as well as protect to his family, to the organization to which he belonged and to the young people of the community he lived in.
The Institute of Development and Peace Studies, Indepaz, states that “this leader was murdered in the midst of circumstances that are unknown to date” and adds that there are already 35 social leaders murdered in the country in 2024.
