Solinas Ordinance: “Positive antigen tests sufficient for Covid diagnosis”

by admin

The initiative of the Sardinian governor became necessary after the publication of a note from the Directorate General of Health in which a molecular test was requested to confirm the infection.

CAGLIARI. From tomorrow until March 15 in Sardinia a positive antigen test will be sufficient for the diagnosis of Covid 19 infection, but also for the definition of a confirmed case and for the activation of the consequent isolation or quarantine provisions ordered by the Hygiene and public health. Therefore, confirmation through a molecular swab will not be needed.

The latest ordinance signed by the president of the Sardinian region Christian Solinas provides for this. Only in patients who are hospitalized, or who need to be hospitalized, should the diagnosis be confirmed with a molecular swab. Obviously, the rules on antigenic products only apply to those carried out by subjects authorized by the Region. In other words, public and private pharmacies with special agreements have specific requirements. Therefore self-administered antigen tests will have no value. The authorized subjects must in any case guarantee the insertion of data in the regional IT systems.

The ordinance signed by the Sardinian governor which consists of 4 articles: Article 1) From the date of entry into force of this Ordinance (today 3 February) and until 15 March 2022, subject to further and / or different assessments on the basis of the available epidemiological data, a positive antigen test is considered sufficient and does not imply an obligation of confirmation with RT-PCR (molecular) tests for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection, for the definition of confirmed case SARSCoV-2 and for the consequent provisions of isolation or quarantine ordered by the Hygiene and Public Health Services.

Article 2) The provisions of art. 1 apply only to antigenic tests performed by subjects authorized by the Region of Sardinia, according to the regional provisions cited in the introduction, not also to self-administered antigenic tests.

Article 3) In order to ensure the timely handling of positive cases, all subjects authorized to carry out antigen tests, according to the regional provisions cited in the introduction, must guarantee the insertion of data in the regional IT systems already in use and according to the same methods adopted up to now, taking care to verify in advance the personal identity.

Article 4) The diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection in hospitalized patients, or for whom hospitalization must be arranged, must be confirmed by means of a specific molecular RT-PCR test.
