Support Russia’s recognition of the East Ukraine Separation Zone? The CCP responds to netizens shouting dizzy | Russia | Ukraine | Wang Wenbin

[Epoch Times, February 22, 2022](Epoch Times reporter Zhang Ting comprehensive report) Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Monday (February 21) recognizing the two “republics” in the eastern Ukraine separatist zone, a move that prompted Western countries Strongly condemned. In response to Moscow’s move, whether Beijing supports it or not, the Foreign Ministry’s response made netizens completely dizzy.

Putin signed a decree on the 21st recognizing the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) in eastern Ukraine. Donetsk and Luhansk have long been thought to be occupied by Russian-backed separatists, but neither Russia nor the international community have previously recognized either republic.

On Tuesday (February 22), when Wang Wenbin, spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted a regular press conference, a foreign media reporter asked that UN Secretary-General Guterres said that Russia’s decision to “independence” of the two regions does not conform to the UN Charter. China has always claimed to support the international community with the United Nations at its core, so does China support Russia’s decision this time?

Wang Wenbin responded that China will maintain communication and response with relevant parties according to the merits of the matter. Our position on the Ukraine issue has been consistent. The security interests of any country should be respected and maintained. Real security should be common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable. We once again call on relevant parties to exercise restraint, resolve differences through negotiation, and avoid further escalation of the situation.

Wang Wenbin’s response to whether Beijing supports Russia made many netizens dizzy. Some people said, “What’s the answer.” Some people said, “I don’t understand, just read it a few more times.” Another netizen simply said: “The answer is wrong.” Another netizen said: “Tai Chi again.”

In addition to the above-mentioned questions, foreign media also asked whether China recognized the two independent “republics” in eastern Ukraine, and whether Beijing believed that Russia’s actions violated the “New Minsk Agreement”.

The CCP’s response is in stark contrast to the West, with the US, EU, UK and NATO all strongly condemning Moscow’s latest move. Biden will sign an executive order barring Americans from new investment, trade and financing in the so-called Two Republics region of eastern Ukraine, the White House said in a statement on Monday. The order would also allow the United States to impose sanctions on anyone operating in those areas.

CNN said China has been urging dialogue and a peaceful resolution, but experts believe Beijing is doing so for fear of offending people by saying the wrong thing, and is now seeking to walk a tightrope.

“They (CCP) don’t want to get involved and they don’t want to make a very strong statement, and if they do, the US won’t be angry, and neither will Russia,” said Alfred Wu, associate professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. )Say.
