According to the president, these beneficiaries of Colombia Mayor will see their monthly support increased from 80 thousand pesos to 225 thousand pesos.

In an important measure announced during the 2024 National Congress of Municipalities in Cartagena, President Gustavo Petro declared that current support for adults over 80 years of age enrolled in the Colombia Mayor program will be significantly increased.

President Petro expressed that “every elderly man and woman over 80 years of age without a pension will receive a pension from the Colombian government.”«.

The increase in the value of the monetary transfer of the Colombia Mayor program It is the result of a collaboration between several government entitiesincluding Social Prosperity, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labor, National Department of Planning and Colpensiones.

As announced, this increase will come into effect from cycle five of this yearwhich means an important step forward to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable older adults in Colombia.

In addition, President Petro called on local leaders to further deepen the programso that the Elders aged 78 or 79 can also benefit from this additional support. He proposed doing it through the National Pension Fund of Territorial Entities (FONPET), highlighting that the resources of this fund belong to the municipalities and can be used for this purpose.

The measure is part of a broader Government strategy to invest in people and improve the material conditions of existence of the most vulnerable citizens. President Petro urged to reverse the pyramid of public investment, prioritizing projects that benefit the health, education and drinking water of the population.
