“Stop collecting votes on the back of Sanda Dia.” Sven Mary, lawyer for Sanda Dia’s father at the Reuzegom trial, said this in response to an Instagram post by CD&V chairman Sammy Mahdi.
Shortly after the conviction of Youtuber Acid, CD&V chairman Sammy Mahdi took to his pen. “If I can give the Reuzegommer who now receives 20,000 euros from Acid a tip: give that money to Sanda Dia’s family,” he said on his Instagram Stories on Thursday. “And I stand by my position. The fact that Nathan Vandergunst (the real name of Youtuber Acid, ed.) gets a criminal record and the Reuzegommers do not is simply ridiculous. We must respect a judge’s decision, but we must tackle this politically.”
A response that was immediately criticized by Sven Mary, the lawyer who represented Sanda Dia’s father and brother during the Reuzegom trial. “Shut up, Sammy Mahdi. That’s my wise advice. Stop polarizing and recruiting votes on the back of Sanda Dia.”
It is also noteworthy that the criminal court of Bruges actually found community service to be a sufficient punishment, but could not impose it because Acid did not agree to it. If he had done that, he would still have had a clean criminal record.
