The Attorney General’s Office set a date for the start of the trial against Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva

In recent days, President Gustavo Petro’s cabinet has undergone several changes.

Precisely, this Friday, February 2, ambassador Luis Gilberto Murillo landed in Colombia to assume the position of chancellor to replace Álvaro Leyva, who was suspended for three months due to sanctions from the control body related to his decisions in the passport tender in Colombia.

The Disciplinary Investigation Chamber indicated that the chancellor had incurred two disciplinary offenses provisionally classified as very serious and committed by way of fraud.

The first of them was to declare void the tender 001 of 2023 without having factual, legal and technical foundations, which could have transgressed the principles of state contracting, according to the Attorney General’s Office.

However, the exact date for scheduling the trial against the Foreign Minister was not known with certainty.

Therefore, the Attorney General’s Office stated that the trial against the chancellor will take place in the coming days.

“The Disciplinary Judgment Chamber of the Attorney General’s Office established for next February 15, 2024 the beginning of the verbal trial against the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Álvaro Leyva Durán, for the alleged irregularities that occurred in the passport tender, which will take place at the headquarters of the Entity,” said the statement from the Attorney General’s Office.
