The President of the National Assembly, Yawa Djigbodi Tsègan, proceeded this Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the headquarters of the hemicycle, to the solemn opening of the first ordinary session of the year, in accordance with the provisions of article 55 paragraph 2 of the Constitution.

The opening of this first ordinary session offers parliamentarians the opportunity to exercise their constitutional missions of representation, voting and control of government action.

“In the wake of parliamentary history, we continue our duty: to contribute to forging innovative legislation. This moment, my dear colleagues, is a summons not only of our commitment to democracy and justice, but also the reaffirmation of our unwavering desire to serve Togo with integrity,” indicated the President of the National Assembly in her speech. inaugural.

She added that parliamentarians must resolutely continue their mission until the deputies of the next legislature take effective office, as enshrined in article 52 paragraph 11 of the Constitution.

“Although the context of the opening of this first ordinary session of the year 2024 coincides with the announcement of the upcoming holding of legislative and regional elections, we must commit not to lose sight of the normal course of sovereign activities of the National Representation,” said Yawa Djigbodi Tsègan.

In addition, the national representation has included in its agenda projects and legislative proposals with a view to establishing a vital democracy. With this in mind, twenty-one (21) projects and a proposed law were submitted to the desk of the National Assembly covering areas as varied as diverse, including constitutional revision, finance, economy, land, environment, public companies.

In this spirit, the President of the National Assembly invited her colleagues to work tirelessly, to demonstrate constructive dialogue so that all decisions are in the best interest of the nation.

Counting on the determination and contribution of all, the President hoped that “this first ordinary session marks a significant step in our common march towards a better future for all by renewing solidarity for a cherished, united, prosperous Togo and above all for a Togo, the gold of humanity,” said Yawa Djigbodi Tsègan.

Furthermore, Yawa Djigbodi Tsègan praised the maturity of the various parliamentary groups which favor in all circumstances the triumphant values ​​of dialogue and harmony.

Note that this ordinary session will last 4 months just like the previous one.
