More and more Colombian citizens express a growing interest in exploring new tourist horizons outside the country, seeking to enrich their lives with diverse experiences that allow them to immerse themselves in different cultures, traditions and ways of life.

The expansion of international air connectivity has been a key factor driving this interest, providing Colombians with access to exchanges of knowledge and experiences in broader and more varied destinations. This phenomenon, combined with the revaluation of the Colombian peso against the dollar in 2023, has served as an additional incentive for people to undertake international trips, according to Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.

At the end of 2023, a total of 5,174,032 Colombians traveled abroad, representing an increase of 5% compared to the 2022 record, which was 4,930,739. It is important to highlight that the United States, Mexico, Spain, Panama and the Dominican Republic appeared as the main destinations, covering 71% of all departures by Colombian citizens for tourist, business or travel reasons in general.

“We are sure that the ANATO Tourist Showcase will be a great stage for the different actors in the industry to learn more about the potential, not only of Colombia, but also of the world, and through business contacts of the businessmen participating in the event. , we can diversify the international tourism offer,” concluded the union leader.

In December alone, 526,543 Colombians went abroad, which is a 15% growth compared to the same month of the previous year, which explains the good result in November in the nominal income of Travel Agencies, with an increase of 26% ; in employed personnel 7.6%; and 11.1% in nominal salaries. However, it is important to remember that in the third quarter of 2023, employed personnel were 32% below pre-pandemic levels.
