The historic pizza chef of the Maggie pizzeria in Santa Lucia has died

Maria Teresa Rosso was the first woman in the city to prepare and bake pizzas in the restaurant in Via Bologna that she had opened with her husband in the mid-80s

She was the first female pizza chef in Prato and since the mid-1980s, together with her husband Vincenzo, she has baked thousands of daisies and four seasons for the customers of the Maggie pizzeria in via Bologna in Santa Lucia. Maria Teresa Rosso died today January 27 at just 61 years old, after having fought strenuously against an illness that she discovered last July. Until that moment she had continued to work every day at the bakery of the place, the management of which since 2009 had passed to her daughter Maggie (in whose honor the pizzeria had been named many years before) and to her son-in-law Massimo.

Maria Teresa opened the pizzeria in the mid-80s, together with her husband Vincenzo La Porta, immediately enjoying great success and making Maggie one of the points of reference for pizza lovers. In addition to her husband, she leaves behind her daughter Maggie and son Philip along with four grandchildren.

The body of Maria Teresa Rosso will be exhibited in the chapel of the Coiano cemetery from tomorrow at 10am while the funeral will be held on Tuesday morning 30 January at 10.30am in the church of Santa Lucia.
