The Istiqlal Party gathers the Executive Committee to decide on the date of the National Conference

The electronic newspaper Hespress learned from sources within the Executive Committee of the Istiqlal Party that the Secretary-General of the Party, Nizar Baraka, is expected to call for a meeting of the Executive Committee next week, and put forward a proposed date for holding the National Conference after the long postponement that took place.

According to the sources, who did not wish to reveal their identity, the rapprochement between the opposing brothers within the Allal El Fassi party “no longer exists in the way it was in the past,” confirming that Baraka held consultations with the strong man in the party, Hamdi Ould Rachid, and the two parties approached… Compatibility.

The same sources confirmed that there is a will within the party to accelerate the holding of the conference no later than next May, stating that the Secretary-General of the party is “fully aware of this matter and is seeking to implement it.”

Baraka also held consultations with the Chairman of the Council of Advisors, Al-Naam Mayara, a leader in the party, which the sources described as “fruitful,” as they confirmed that Mayara will be re-elected as Secretary General for a second term at the head of the General Union of Workers in Morocco, the union arm of the Istiqlal Party.

Regarding expectations regarding potential candidates to lead the party in the next stage, the sources stressed that this issue “is not controversial within the party, and there is almost consensus on the re-election of Nizar Baraka as Secretary-General for a new term,” considering that matters depend on the Secretary-General’s invitation to hold a meeting of the Executive Committee of Yes, break this “blockage”.

Hespress sources indicated that the date proposed by the Secretary-General for holding the conference “should be adopted by the Executive Committee and approved by the National Council, after which the work of the conference preparatory committee, headed by a member of the Executive Committee, will begin,” according to the party’s bylaws.

The sources linked the continued impasse in holding the National Conference of the Istiqlal Party to the desire of former members and leaders of the party to find a foothold within the next Executive Committee, which are desires that “stand as a stumbling block in the way of overcoming the situation and holding the conference.”

It is noteworthy that the Istiqlal Party conference was likely to be held during the year 2023, before that became impossible, and the Secretary-General, Nizar Baraka, announced, in a previous meeting with the independent parliamentarians, that the expected new date for this organizational station is April or May 2024.
