Boscariz church full for the mountaineer who died on Mont Blanc Touching the memory of the parish priest of Fonzaso who baptized Marcon

It was the notes of “Candle in the wind” by Elton John, played on the violin by Maestro Claudio Colmanet, to close the funeral ceremony with which family, friends and mountain enthusiasts gave their last farewell to Giovanni Marcon, Gianni for those who loved him. The 49-year-old mountaineer who died on Friday last week on Mont Blanc returned home to receive the hug of the community. The song chosen was the same one that also accompanied Gianni’s mother, Rosetta, on the last trip. To listen, in a composed pain, to father Antonio and his partner Lorena who have supported each other in these days of waiting.
Don Alberto Vallotto, parish priest of Fonzaso did not want to miss the funeral of the 49-year-old baptized child: «I still remember when Antonio and Rosetta introduced him to me and I had the joy of holding him in my arms. Even now I feel like holding him close to me. I have always considered the families of my parish as my family. And Gianni’s is no exception. Even when Gianni grew up and moved from Fonzaso we never lost sight of each other. As a friend told me who like Gianni loves the mountains “the higher I climb, the more I feel close to God”. An extraordinary thought and a feeling that Gianni certainly felt ».
Present at the function was the president of the Cai di Feltre, Ennio De Simoi, with the sectional banner. Marcon, in fact, was a longtime partner and for him there was a prayer addressed to the Lord of the Peaks. The Boscariz church filled up, making the family feel how much affection it surrounded Gianni.
“The only life insurance is given to us by the Lord, but in his own way,” said Fr Umberto Antoniol in his homily. «Many times Gianni has faced his climbs alone or in company and has managed to come back alive, but this time his ashes have returned home. I refer to a proverb of his father, Antonio: “The bucket, by dint of going into the well, loses its handle”. And faced with the mystery of why God deprives us of family and friends in such a sudden way, we must have the confidence that God will show us light and mercy, as he certainly did with John ».
