Mayors of central Cauca plan to form a regional group to develop projects of common benefit.
At the call of the mayor of Popayán, Juan Carlos Muñoz Bravo, the leaders of the central area of the department, better known as the “Meseta de Popayán”, met in his office on January 15, 2024, made up of the municipalities of Cajibío, Piendamó, Morales, Silvia, Totoró, Puracé, Timbío, Sotará, El Tambo and Popayán, in order to jointly develop and develop projects for the benefit of the region, which could form the metropolitan area.
This first meeting of mayors, which concluded with some lines of work, was very positive, as the need to articulate an association model that brings together municipalities to generate regional development was highlighted.
According to the host mayor, the initial proposal refers to the creation of a collection center that would allow the formation of a Metropolitan Area of Municipalities. “The idea is to be able to configure a socioeconomic and political group with the coordination of the territorial entities of the center of the department, said Muñoz Bravo.
The mayor of Popayán also highlighted the political will of each of the mayors and their government teams who attended the meeting. “Each president made clear the need to join forces by forming an organization.”
