Yet another mention for the astrophotographer originally from Valle and resident in Lozzo
LOZZO. Yet another recognition for the astrophotographer Giorgia Hofer, originally from Valle and resident in Lozzo, who was awarded the fifth Apod. NASA yesterday rewarded one of his shots that portrays Antelao, the “king” of the Dolomites, assigning it the astronomy picture of the day, the cover image of the universe that changes day by day on the highly clicked Apod website.
“Last Saturday I had an appointment at the Col Drusciè observatory for an evening”, says Hofer, “while I was waiting for a colleague of mine from the association and the people who had booked the visit, I saw a beautiful full moon emerge from the slopes of Antelao . It was the time of the famous blue hour, a twilight characterized by extraordinary light. The blue hour occurs just before sunrise or after sunset when the sun is below the horizon but the earth and sky are still bathed in beautiful blue light. The moonlight was yellow at the time I took the shot, but this type of full moon is known by many as a seasonal blue moon. This is because the third full moon of a season with four full moons is called the blue moon. ‘
Giorgia Hofer “reveals” her professional secrets that in a short time have led her to become a reference point for NASA.
«The first rule is to look for solitary places, as far away as possible from inhabited centers and from the lights of the towns. In my images shelters, bivouacs or small high mountain churches are often the protagonists. This time I can say that I was very lucky because I was just a few minutes from the center of Cortina and my habit of always carrying photographic equipment with me because “you never know” has paid off ».
