What does the public think?
The National Assembly is expected to start —this Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.— the impeachment trial against President Guillermo Lasso. The Secretariat of the Assembly sent, on Sunday, May 14, the call to the 137 assembly members. Faced with the situation in the country, in the streets of the city of Loja, professionals have different criteria.
Timoteo Barragán Guamán, retired military:
I believe that with the impeachment of President Lasso, we won nothing. Removing the President is not the best option. My opinion is that they make a change to the Constitution and the laws so that there can be better governance in the country.
Yolanda Piedra Esparza, nurse:
I believe that everything should be transparent and the process clear. President Lasso, “if he has clean hands”, has the right to defend himself. There are also other issues that worry the country; For example, attention must improve because, at present, the service in public hospitals is terrible.
Luis Alfonso Chiriboga, lawyer:
I think so, the process is within the legal parameters, it must be carried out. As long as it is not framed in the Law, it should not occur. It has to be investigated and that all the evidence has a legal basis. It should not become a topic to divert attention. The people lack employment and work.
Fredy Cueva Alberca, lawyer:
I think that the political trial will not have any positive results because the Government is working with its team to prevent it from prospering. At present, there are many factors that are not adjusted to the social reality that Ecuador lives. There are matters of concern such as insecurity.
Luis Rolando Carrión, law student:
The situation is complicated by the issue of voting. The process is not very clear. Some are advised to keep Guillermo Lasso in office. I believe that there must be a change, because we are wrong in some aspects, especially crime.
Eduardo Romero Albán, law student:
I think that sooner or later it was going to happen, given the circumstances. The opposition is the majority in the Assembly. I think it is necessary to give the president a second chance to defend himself. There has to be fairness. There are areas such as health and education, abandoned; the efforts of the authorities and assembly members should focus there.
