Spring Festival Couplets Calligraphy Event Brings Joy to Dongpu Village

The art of calligraphy took center stage in Dongpu Village, Simen Town, as the “Wanfu Welcomes the Spring Calligraphy Benefiting the People Service” launched its “Writing Spring Festival Couplets” activity on the morning of January 25.

The event drew the participation of 10 calligraphers and calligraphy enthusiasts who gathered to spread red paper and splash ink, crafting the word “福” (meaning “good fortune”) in various styles. The Spring Festival couplets were customized on the spot based on the villagers’ preferences, and were set aside to dry for the eager villagers to collect.

Villager Aunt Shi was the first to receive a couplet, and the positive energy of the event quickly spread as more than 400 Spring Festival couplets and “福” characters were given out throughout the day.

Yi Yongfang, president of the Simen Town Calligraphy Association, emphasized the importance of integrating calligraphy into daily life and using it as a way to spread New Year blessings to the local community.

The event not only celebrated the traditional Chinese culture, but also succeeded in creating a lively and peaceful festival atmosphere, enriching the spiritual and cultural life of the villagers. In fact, the Spring Festival couplet sending activity is set to continue until February 2, with plans to distribute nearly 2,000 more couplets and “福” characters to the masses.

The successful event was a testament to the power of art and tradition in bringing joy and community spirit to Dongpu Village, and is a heartwarming start to the Lunar New Year celebrations.
