Islamabad: Presiding Officer Senator Ishaq Dar administered the oath to the newly elected members of the Senate in the Senate meeting.

43 senators took oath in the senate, the senators took the oath in Urdu. After the oath, presiding officer Ishaq Dar congratulated all the senators who took the oath and said that a phase has been completed, former members of the National Assembly were also present in the gallery. Welcome to them.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Yusuf Raza Gilani and other members took oath.

PTI members protested at the start of the meeting and raised slogans of disapproval of stolen Senate election. PTI’s Ali Zafar expressed his views and said that the meeting should be postponed until the KP Senator comes.

According to the Senate agenda, the election of the Chairman of the Senate will be held today at 12 noon, if two candidates contest, then the election will be held by secret ballot.

But the Sunni Ittehad Council has announced a boycott of the elections so if only one candidate Yusuf Raza Gilani contests, he will be elected unopposed and take oath.

After taking the oath of office and assuming the chair, the chairman will elect the deputy chairman and administer oath to him.

The presiding officer will issue the election schedule for the chairman and deputy chairman. Candidates for the chairman and deputy chairman of the senate can get the nomination papers from the senate secretariat. Candidates can submit their nomination papers to the Senate Secretary.

At 11:50 the papers will be scrutinized while at 12:30 the Chairman Senate and Deputy Chairman Senate will be elected.
