This is the shed that for over thirty years housed the historic restaurant in via Baldasseria Bassa.

UDINE. As part of a bankruptcy procedure, the shed which for over thirty years housed the pizzeria “Da Pierino” in via Baldasseria Bassa is going to be auctioned. The opening of the envelopes is scheduled for March 31 at the judicial sales institute in via Liguria. But the offers (the minimum is 303 thousand euros) must be submitted by 12 noon the day before, March 30th.

The court of Udine had declared the bankruptcy of the last company that had managed the local historian last July. The “Da Pierino” pizzeria was initially opened in 1972 in Piazzale Cella, in the highest building, and had achieved good success reaching 150 seats.

After nine years, at the beginning of the 1980s, the new headquarters had been inaugurated in the presence of the mayor Angelo Candolini. A large room – designed by the architect Di Giovanni of Naples – and divided into three slightly staggered levels, designed to also accommodate large tables. Near the entrance there was a room for children (an innovation for those years) and, in the background, the large dome over the two wood-burning ovens that have always been the winning card of the well-known restaurant opened by Pietro Di Martino, known as “Pierino”, and passed away in November 2020, a few days after receiving the seal of the city from the hands of the mayor Pietro Fontanini.

Piero Di Martino – originally from Tramonti (Salerno) and arrived in the city in the mid-1960s – had decided to leave the premises of Baldasseria (initially managed with his brother) in the spring of 2013. But he had not left the world of catering: the great Baldasseria’s pizzeria had passed into the hands of a niece and he had given new life to a restaurant in Viale Volontari della Libertà. «My son Maurizio will come with me – Pierino had declared at the time -. Indeed, it is precisely for him that I dive into this new experience ».

And today Maurizio manages his local “In Chiavris”, in via Gorizia.
