The price of the dollar fell in Colombia

According to reports provided by the Stock Exchange, the US dollar has registered a notable decrease in its value against the Colombian peso, closing the day at an average price of $3,775. This figure represents a significant drop of 37 pesos compared to the Representative Market Rate (TRM) established at $3,812. It would be the lowest result in 22 months.

This change in the Representative Market Rate (TRM) reflects the volatility of the foreign exchange market in the country, impacted by various economic, internal and external factors. The current decline points to a depreciation of the peso against the dollar, which has significant implications for trade and national finances. The last time a similar figure was observed was when the value stood at $3,782.65, underscoring the importance of this adjustment in monetary and economic policy.

Juan David Ballén Ramírez, director of Analysis and Strategy at Casa de Bolsa SCB, shared that one of the reasons for this decline is due to: “the rise in commodities such as oil, gold, among others, as a result of the economic strength of countries like the US and China, in addition to the geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East.”

In the last week, the US dollar had seen a decrease of 1.83%, maintaining a decline of 8.7% in the last year. This behavior marks two consecutive sessions with negative results. However, current volatility is notably lower than that recorded in the last year (14.89%), indicating a period of greater stability recently.

Regarding the price of the dollar in exchange offices for the indicated date, a variation is reported depending on the city. In Bogotá, the purchase is recorded at $3,740 and the sale at $3,800; Medellín shows a purchase at $3,610 and sale at $3,780; Cali has purchase and sale prices of $3,720 and $3,780 respectively; while Cartagena has the highest sales rate at $3,850, with a purchase at $3,600.
