The historic auditorium of Henan University in China, known for its architectural significance, was severely damaged in a fire that broke out during renovation work. The incident occurred on the night of May 2nd, with the roof of the auditorium collapsing and the building left charred.

Reporters from Top News, a subsidiary of Henan Daily, arrived at the Minglun Campus of Henan University the following morning to find several fire rescue vehicles on the scene. Firefighters were seen spraying water on the charred remains of the auditorium in an effort to extinguish any remaining flames.

Aerial footage captured the extent of the damage, showing the collapsed roof and blackened walls of the iconic building. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported as a result of the fire. Henan University confirmed the incident on social media platform Weibo, stating that the fire was successfully extinguished with the help of the fire department.

The auditorium, officially named “The Auditorium of the Former Site of the Henan Preparatory School for Studying in Europe and America at Henan University,” has a rich history dating back to its completion in 1934. Spanning over 4,000 square meters, the auditorium has the capacity to accommodate more than 3,000 people and is considered a masterpiece of modern Chinese architectural art. In 2006, it was recognized as one of China’s key cultural relics protection units.
