The Sile by bike from the sources to the sea: maps and videos just a click away

by admin

«Let’s ride on it», our project. The routes, the “tips” for cyclists, the things to see between Vedelago and Treviso, down to Casier, Casale, Portegrandi, Jesolo and Cavallino

TREVISO. One hundred kilometers by bicycle along the Sile river from the sources of Vedelago to the mouth of Cavallino. Not a cycling race, an “up and away” to be completed in one go, but a pleasure of life to be savored calmly, stopping here and there. I walked them all, filming them, photographing them, collecting ideas and sometimes recording some problems. The result is this guide divided into five stages, complete with maps and videos for each area.

STAGE 1. From the Vedelago springs to Badoere: about 20 kilometers

I went to see the water that comes out of the earth and then from Casacorba, in the municipality of Vedelago, I went down pedaling to Badoere, encountering swans, herons, scattered traces of millenary woods, villages built around water from time to time. And finally the great beauty of the Rotonda.

STAGE 2. From Badoere to the outskirts of Treviso: about 20 kilometers

A ride between natural glimpses and works of man. The charm of the mills in Quinto, Canizzano and at the gates of the city.

The city and the burci, perhaps the best known and most appreciated area of the Sile. Here, among art, ancient mills, barges and natural fauna, a “mature” Sile takes shape. The arrival in the area of the burci leaves you breathless. We go down the river slowly.

STAGE 4. From Casier to Portegrandi, about 25 kilometers

From the beautiful bend of the river repeatedly taken up in commercials to the “basins”, where the river caresses the lagoon. And in between villas, marinas, boats. A journey through history, nature and … a few corners to fix.

STAGE 5. From Portegrandi to the Cavallino lighthouse: about 30 kilometers

I finally arrive in Jesolo and the Cavallino lighthouse, where the Sile meets the sea. Between Portegrandi and Caposile the joy of seeing flamingos, and then the lagoon landscapes, the watchtowers, the gaze on the beaches of the Adriatic. A stop to be savored very calmly.
