The teachers’ struggle is constitutional, but the government’s actions are unconstitutional: Vicente Cuchillas

This Friday in the Platform program, the university professor, Vicente Cuchillas, spoke about the Teaching Unit and his fight in the defense of their labor rights, by demanding compliance with article 33 of the Teaching Career Law.

“The salary leveling for the teaching sector should have been carried out in 2023 but the government did not do it, although a proposal was presented for the analysis of this salary leveling in 2022, but there was no response from the government”he detailed.

Cuchillas explained that article 33 of the Teaching Career Law establishes that the salaries of educators will have periodic reviews no longer than 3 years, so this is a legal action and a right, to which is added the cost of the life that has increased.

“Last Wednesday government authorities called a meeting considered dilatory, which did not provide answers, only maintaining the dialogue table, being an attempt to stop the march, as well as other repressive actions.”made it known.

Cuchillas affirmed that the teachers’ struggle is constitutional, but the government’s actions are unconstitutional, which is why teachers should not be afraid.

“Rights are not begged, they are defended as it is a legal action, the government must provide a response, hoping it is positive… The teaching unity must continue on other issues, such as pensions, including the $200 bonus in the salary, equalization of the bonus to $600, being the same job for which they receive their base salary and in reality they receive less amount”said the university professor.
