Hanjiang River in the Pearl River Basin Experiences Third Flood of the Year, Ministry of Water Resources Launches Emergency Response
The Hanjiang River in the Pearl River Basin has experienced its third flood of the year, prompting the Ministry of Water Resources to launch a flood prevention level IV emergency response. The recent flood, which occurred for the first time in 2024, has raised concerns about the safety of the region and its residents.
According to a report issued by the Ministry of Water Resources, the water level at the Sanheba Hydrological Station in Meizhou, Guangdong, rose to 42.01 meters on the 28th of April, exceeding the warning water level by 0.01 meters. This significant increase in water levels has been attributed to heavy rainfall in the area.
Since the start of the flood season on April 1, both the Beijiang and Hanjiang rivers in the Pearl River Basin have already experienced two numbered floods. The ongoing heavy rainfall has led to rising water levels in the Hanjiang, Dongjiang, and Beijiang rivers, posing a risk of further flooding in the region.
In response to the flood situation in Guangdong Province, the Ministry of Water Resources has activated a flood prevention level IV emergency response. This includes measures such as strengthening rain and water monitoring and forecasting, ensuring the safety of reservoirs and construction projects, and implementing 24-hour duty systems to facilitate timely information transmission.
A working group from the Ministry of Water Resources is currently on-site to guide the prevention efforts and respond to any potential dangers posed by the flooding. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay alert and follow the guidance provided by local authorities to ensure their safety during this challenging time.
