The US will send a new military aid package for USD 400 million for the defense of Ukraine

US President Joe Biden announced on Friday that he has approved a new military aid package worth USD 400 million for the defense of Ukraine. The aid includes a variety of defense items and services from the US Department of Defense, as well as military training material, to assist Kyiv in its efforts to defend its freedom.

The package includes air defense ammunition for the Patriot and Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) systems, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, as well as equipment to integrate launchers, missiles, and radars with Ukrainian systems. It also includes high-mobility artillery ammunition, rocket systems, projectiles, ammunition, TOW and Javelin missiles, anti-armor systems, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, armored vehicles, coastal and river patrol boats, among other items.

US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, emphasized the United States‘ commitment to supporting Ukraine in defending itself. The aid comes at a critical time as Russian forces continue to push back Ukrainian forces in several areas of the Eastern Front.

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky expressed his gratitude for the aid, stating that once the new packages of military material from the US arrive, the Ukrainian Army will be able to resume the initiative on the front and stop Russian advances in the east of the country. Zelensky highlighted the importance of artillery systems, ammunition, and drones that Ukraine produces itself to counter Russian military aggression.

While American weapons and ammunition have already started to arrive in Ukraine, Zelensky stressed that the full volume of supplies approved by the US has not yet been received. He remains optimistic that with the increased supply of weapons, Ukraine will be able to detain Russian forces in the east and take back the initiative on the frontlines.

The ongoing support from the United States and the international coalition aims to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities and help the country defend its sovereignty against Russian aggression.
