The young tide in Cesar’s politics

Katherine Vargas

It wasn’t easy, but it was achieved. The battle faced by young people in recent times is finally bearing fruit, the youth achieved victory in the Department of Cesar. We young people from Caesarea have been opening spaces for ourselves in regional politics for years, from academia and good social and political practice; That is why I am excited to see that, in this electoral period, many young people have managed to occupy significant roles within the administration.

The recent period of 2023 electoral contest was the perfect scenario for many young people to make their names, resumes and political capabilities known to the people of Caesarea, in order to achieve their positioning and participation in the different corporations and entities, to open the doors to a new political era in the department.

From Valledupar to Aguachica it was the victory of the young people, starting with some mayors among whom we have Assad Raish, in the municipality of El Copey, who has stood out for his good performance in different public positions and generates great expectations in his new challenge as president of the town of Cesar; Hermes Martínez in Curumaní, a very loved young man known for his excellent performance as Secretary of the Government in the last term. Likewise, Leonardo Hernández in Jagua de Ibirico, Fabián Martínez in Becerril, Jesús Ortiz in El Paso and Víctor Roqueme in Aguachica.

Furthermore, it is important to highlight the triumph of some vallenatos in the different corporations. A clear example of this is Jorge Andrés Pana Ramos, today the youngest deputy in the department, who has become known for his great human quality and youthful political structure; Similarly, some young people such as Juan de Dios Castro and Juan Camilo Arias Romero managed to position themselves in the Municipal Council.

On the other hand, although the current mayor of Valledupar Ernesto Orozco does not fall into the “young” category, he did decide to take a chance with the youth in his government cabinet, allowing the participation of some young people known for their political, social and academic work in the municipality such as Camilo Pinto Morón, municipal Secretary of Education and Alinson González, director of Inder Valledupar.

Without a doubt, this is a clear example that innovation, persistence, hard effort, disruptive capacity and the vision that young people possess are some of the factors that helped us achieve local and departmental victory last year. October 29, 2023 and I say we achieved it because the participation of some is the beginning of new paths for all young people.

The challenge did not end in the campaign and the so-called “honeymoon” of the mandate cannot make a dent in the official, the real challenge is just beginning and that is that the objectives raised and proposed in the campaign for his people begin to work this year to that its fulfillment be achieved, since, without a doubt, the performance and results of today’s young people will be the harvest of tomorrow’s young people.

Let’s be sensible and not throw away the great work that all the young people have been doing in favor of Cesar’s policy. The moment is now!
