“There can be no more speculation with electricity generation rates”: Petro

President Gustavo Petro responded to concerns raised by the energy company Air-e regarding the high rates faced by users of the electric service.

Through his account on the social network X, the president expressed his agreement with the company on the fundamental point of eliminating speculation in electricity generation rates.. This comes in response to a letter sent by Air-e to the president, in which the company shares its concern about the high rates imposed by the market.

In its message, Air-e mentions three factors that have been the subject of discussion with the Energy and Gas Regulatory Commission (CREG), regarding the bad practices of energy generators. These factors were later explained by President Petro in X’s account of him.

The government’s first intervention on this issue was rejected by the Council of State, although the president recognizes this decision and undertakes to act on the three elements that contribute to the high speculative cost of energy in the country.

In its letter, Air-e expresses its willingness to support formulas that reduce rates for the benefit of users, either through direct intervention by the Government on the stock market or by consensus with the generators. They also mention a proposal presented to the Minister of Mines and Energy to reduce the rate by 15% in two weeks and the cost of the bill by 68%.

The company highlights that, although they have improved the quality of service by 65%, it is necessary to guarantee invoices that users can pay, which requires joint actions with social sensitivity.
