Sharks of La Guiara one step away from the title, after beating the Cardenales de Lara 7-5, to add their third victory in a row in this grand final of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP).
The team led by Oswaldo Guillen achieved victory this Thursday, January 25, at the Antonio Herrera Gutiérrez stadium in Barquisimeto, remaining one game away from winning its first championship in 37 years.
The Tiburones offense began to produce in the second inning, with a double by Brayan Rocchio that drove in Yasiel Puig and Luis Torrens, making it 2-0.
In the third episode two more came for La Guaira, with a two-run home run by Cuban Yasiel Puig, which made the game 4-0.
For their part, the Cardenales got their first run in the bottom of the third inning, thanks to Jermaine Palacios’ single that drove in Ildemaro Vargas, making it 4-1.
But, Tiburones expanded the advantage with a productive fifth inning, where they added four hits, including a double by Alcides Escobar, a walk and a couple of errors by the Larense defense, which combined for La Guaira to score three more and take the lead. 7-1.
The second for the Cardenales came in the seventh inning, when Odubel Herrera hit a single to center that drove in Gorkys Hernández.
Lara continued looking for the comeback and scored with two more in the eighth inning, after a double by Ángel Reyes that drove in Hernán Pérez, and a single by Gorkys Hernández that brought Reyes to the plate, to make it 7-4 on the scoreboard.
In the ninth episode, the twilight team mounted a threat in search of a tie. With one out on the board, Jermaine Palacios, Rangel Ravelo and Hernán Pérez hit consecutive singles and Palacios scored the fifth line, which made the final figures 7-5.
Emilio Vargas was the winning pitcher with six innings, allowing five hits and two runs, in addition to striking out two opponents. Meanwhile, Arnaldo Hernández was left with the save.
For his part, Max Castillo was the losing pitcher, receiving eight hits and six runs in four innings pitched.

With this victory, Tiburones places the final in their favor 3-0. This Friday, January 26, will be a break, and the series will resume this Saturday again in Barquisimeto.
