Groups that defend the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community rejected the death of Juan Carlos Villareal Quintero, murdered with a knife in events recorded in the municipality of Pelaya, south of Cesar.

Apparently Juan Carlos Villareal, a member of the LGTBIQ+ community, was in the Las Flores neighborhood where a young man stabbed him in the neck.

The wound was lethal, since Villarreal died immediately, while hours later he turned himself in to the National Police, according to preliminary versions.

“He was a very loved person who did not mess with anyone. It is clear that she, apparently, was intolerant of alcohol issues, ”said an LGBTIQ + community leader from the south of the department under reservation of identity.

Juan Carlos Villareal, 34, affectionately known as ‘Pinocchio’, lived in the municipality with his relatives.

“The call is for the Government of Cesar and all those facilities that are committed to supporting the LGBTIQ+ communities that have been mistreated lately,” the leader pointed out.
This is the second case of violence reported by the community so far this month. The first case was recorded in the municipality of La Paz, where a firearm was attacked against the property of the leader Kasandra Torregrosa, community manager of the Caribe Afirmativo organization in Valledupar.

“We remember that LGBTIQ+ people are subject to special protection that the State must provide, since the absence of it implies a role for the authorities in prosecuting these behaviors. As long as these systematic practices continue to perpetuate violence based on prejudice, Caribe Afirmativo encourages neighboring communities to work for the recognition and respect of their rights,” reported Caribe Afirmativo.

Likewise, the organization urged the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate whether there is a relationship between the sexual orientation of the victim and the homicide.
