On Thursday, February 8, the city of Medellín will witness various demonstrations called by different sectors of Colombian society. These marches, which will take place in different parts of the city, are a response to the growing concern about the situation faced by the Prosecutor’s Office and the need to demand transparency and justice in the country’s judicial system.
At 7:00 am, at the Palace of Justice located in La Alpujarra, a rally called by the Unitary Central of Workers and union associations will take place. This sector of the population has decided to join together to express their discontent and demand concrete actions in the face of the recent controversies that have surrounded the Prosecutor’s Office.
Starting at 10:00 am, the Plaza de las Luces will become the meeting point for members of the Association of Institutes of Antioquia and the Union Association of Educators of Medellín. These organizations, representative of the educational union, will march to demand transparency and guarantees for the country’s educational system.
Simultaneously, at 2:00 pm, at the Hospital Station, a rally called by the Comunes political party will take place. The participants in this march will express their concern about the current situation in the Prosecutor’s Office and will demand clear actions by the authorities to guarantee the impartiality and effectiveness of the judicial system.
In the same time slot, the University of Antioquia will be the scene of another demonstration, this time led by students belonging to the group called “front line” and various political movements. These young people will demand structural changes in the judicial system and show their support for the demands for transparency and justice in the country.
Finally, as the highlight of the day, a rally will be held in front of the Prosecutor’s Bunker facilities.
