New USCIS Option Offers Fast Employment Authorization in the US
The Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced a new option that allows migrants in the United States to receive their employment authorization document in just 30 days, maximum. This automated system ensures that as soon as applicants are legally admitted to the country, USCIS will automatically grant them their EAD.
The Employment Authorization Document (Form I-766/EAD) is a necessary permit for individuals to work legally in the United States. Employers typically do not offer employment to those who do not possess an EAD, so it is crucial to request it as soon as possible.
Once granted, the desired permit will arrive by return mail. However, USCIS reminds applicants that deadlines may vary and it is recommended to wait at least 30 days before making any inquiries about their case.
To apply for an EAD, individuals must first complete, sign, and file Form I-765 with all the required evidence and supporting documentation. USCIS advises consulting with an attorney to navigate any potential complications that may arise during the application process.
After submitting the application by postal mail, applicants are required to pay a filing fee of $410.00 USD. Certain categories of applicants may need to make an additional payment of $85.00 USD for the registration of biometric data, while others may be eligible for exemptions.
There are various statuses under which individuals can obtain a work permit in the United States, including those with approved humanitarian visas, political refugees, immigrants processing permanent residence, students seeking a specific type of employment, spouses or minor children of exchange visitors, and individuals with DACA or VAWA status.
The new USCIS option for expedited employment authorization is set to benefit migrants and streamline the process of obtaining the necessary permit to work legally in the United States.
