Millions of Families in the U.S. Anticipate Summer EBT Benefits
As summer approaches, millions of families across the United States are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their Summer EBT benefits. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides an extra benefit during the summer months to eligible children who are on vacation from school.
The Summer EBT program is a joint effort between the federal and state governments to ensure that children who rely on free school meals during the academic year still have access to nutritious food during the summer break. This additional benefit amounts to approximately $120.00 USD per child for the duration of their vacation.
To qualify for the Summer EBT program, children must already receive free meals at school and their household income must be at or below 185% of the federal poverty level for the 2023-2024 school year. Additionally, households must already be receiving SNAP or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits, or the children must be homeless, migrants, or in foster care.
Children who participate in the Head Start program, which is administered by the school district, are also eligible for Summer EBT benefits. Eligibility is automatic for those who meet the program’s requirements, but those who do not can submit a School Meals Application by the end of May.
Applications for the Summer EBT program can be found online through the child’s school district website or can be obtained in print form at the child’s school. It is essential for families to apply as soon as possible to avoid any delays in receiving their benefits for the summer of 2024.
As summer approaches, families are encouraged to take advantage of the Summer EBT program to ensure that their children have access to nutritious meals during the break from school. This vital program provides essential support to families in need and helps to alleviate food insecurity among children across the country.
