The provisional membership figures of the Protestant churches in Germany for the year 2022 have now been announced. The numbers are catastrophic: 745,000 people who left the church or died; this compares to only 185,000 entry through baptism or reentry. On the Catholic side, the figures are no better expected. Both churches together are likely to have well over a million members
