Since T3 and T4 affect all organs and tissues that express SD hormone receptors, the symptoms of Graves’ disease are not limited to SD but can affect the entire metabolism. Systemic involvement, for example of the eyes, skin, bone cells and heart, is possible. In the advanced stage, enlargement of the SD, rapid pulse rate, and eyeballs protruding from the orbit (exophthalmos) are a characteristic trio of symptoms.
