Life and trees are rooted in a pure land; thousands of rivers and mountains are painted into a magnificent picture.

Tibet is the main body of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is known as the “Roof of the World“, “The Third Pole of the Earth” and “Asian Water Tower”. It is an important ecological security barrier for my country and Asia. Protecting Tibet’s ecological environment will benefit the future and the world.

In July of this year, President Xi pointed out that during an inspection tour in Tibet, we must firmly establish the concept that green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains, and ice and snow are also golden mountains and silver mountains, maintain strategic determination, improve the level of ecological environment management, and promote the protection of biodiversity on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Unswervingly follow the path of ecological priority and green development, strive to build a modernization in which man and nature coexist harmoniously, and earnestly protect the earth’s third pole ecology.

In recent years, guided by Xi Jinping’s thoughts on ecological civilization, the Tibetan military and civilians have adhered to the attitude of being responsible for history, the people, and the world, putting ecological civilization construction in a more prominent position, and jointly protecting the ecological environment of the snow-covered plateau and strengthening the country. Safe ecological barriers, and strive to build a highland of national and even international ecological civilization.

In mid-August, swamps and tidal flats covered most of the Hutoushan Reservoir. Guo Haixu, deputy director of the Human Resources Department of Linzhou County, Lhasa City, said that this is a place where black-necked cranes live for the winter. Since the establishment of the two black-necked crane militia patrol units at the end of 2019, the number of migratory birds that come here to spend the winter has increased significantly at the end of October each year.

“When I returned from retiring last year, I saw the migratory birds in my memory and was shocked by the sights in front of me.” Retired soldier Ci Ren Cangjue said, “There are migratory birds all over the mountains and plains. In addition to black-necked cranes, there are bar-headed geese and yellow ducks. “

Today’s snow-covered plateau, more and more rare animals are returning to people’s vision, and the plateau biodiversity is accelerating recovery. The number of black-necked cranes has risen from less than 3,000 to more than 8,000, and there are about 300,000 Tibetan antelopes. The second survey of terrestrial wildlife resources found 5 new species such as the white-cheeked macaque, and 5 new recorded species in China such as the Donggelin warbler. The results of the second wild plant resource survey showed that the national first-level protected wild plant giant cypress has steadily increased and been effectively protected.

“Protecting the ecology of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is the greatest contribution to the survival and development of the Chinese nation.” In recent years, Tibet has insisted on giving priority to protection, continuously increasing investment in ecological construction, and insisting on integrated protection and systemic governance of landscapes, forests, fields, lakes, sands and ice, and the overall ecosystem. Stable, environmental quality continues to improve, and a green development pattern has initially taken shape. According to data from the Department of Ecological Environment of the Tibet Autonomous Region, more than 12.2 billion yuan has been invested in Tibet to promote the protection and construction of ecological safety barriers. 5 cities (prefectures) and 3 counties have successfully established national-level ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and integrated grassland vegetation. The coverage reaches 47%, and there are 1072 species of terrestrial wild animals.

In recent years, the troops stationed in Tibet have actively participated in the construction of Tibet’s ecological environment, planting ecological protection forests, “thousand mu of national defense forest”, and fully supporting the construction of key ecological projects such as “Green Lhasa”, “Green Lagong Highway” and “Two Rivers and Four Rivers” basin greening projects. . The troops along the Qinghai-Tibet line cooperate with the Hoh Xil National Nature Reserve to control poaching and stealing activities, clean up garbage in the source area of the Yangtze River and along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway (railway), and act as a good ecological guardian of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Camouflage figure’s obsession with “green”

Driving more than 200 kilometers south from Linzhou County, it is Senburi Village, Gongga County, Shannan City. The residents here are herdsmen relocated from Shuanghu County, Nagqu City.

Shuanghu County has an average elevation of more than 5,000 meters, and its oxygen content is less than 40% of the plain area. It is the county with the highest elevation in the country. Residents of this county have lived on grazing for generations. More than half of the pasture area is in the Qiangtang National Nature Reserve. The pastures have been degraded at a rate of 3% to 5% per year.

In 2018, the ecological relocation plan for extremely high altitude areas in Tibet was implemented. The new village was built at the end of 2019, and the first batch of herdsmen from Shuanghu County moved south to Senburi Village, Gongga County, Shannan City. The land that has been withdrawn is “returned” to nature.

The people of all ethnic groups living in the snow-covered plateau have been interdependent with nature for a long time, forming a lifestyle of living in harmony with the plateau environment. Highlighting the regional characteristics and realizing the harmonious coexistence and sustainable development of man and nature are the proper meanings of taking the path of ecological priority and green development.

In Semburi Village, 17-year-old Nima Tsering and her friends are playing football on a newly paved asphalt road. He said: “The altitude here is low, the weather is warm, and running is not as strenuous as in Shuanghu.” The teenagers who play football are no longer struggling due to lack of oxygen, and the Qiangtang grassland is no longer degraded due to overgrazing. Nowadays, in addition to Tibetan antelopes, wild yaks, and Tibetan wild donkeys, the grasslands also inhabit wild animals such as snow leopards, black-necked cranes, wolves, vultures, brown bears, etc. There are 10 national first-level protected wild animals and national second-level protected wild animals. 21 kinds.

The achievement of these achievements is inseparable from the persistence of the camouflage figures on the “green”.

The Nyingchi Military Division combines the troops to perform patrol duties, arranges the backbone of the battalion company to serve as non-staff foresters, and also unites with the resident villages to carry out “Building Beautiful Villages” activities every month to protect the environment and plant trees together with the villagers. Communication station instructor Hao Shukang is one of the 56 non-staff forest rangers in the Linzhi Military Division. This year is his third year as a ranger. He has participated in more than 50 forest rangers in total.

In order to make the permafrost layer a touch of green, the officers and soldiers of the Nagqu Army Division also tried to dig deep pits, sift sheep dung, spread mulch, and wrap quilts. Over the past half century, officers and soldiers have tried countless times to plant saplings. Give up sowing green.

Eat ecological rice and embark on the road to wealth

“Next stop, Linzhi…” After listening to the radio broadcast on the Fuxing and watching the mountains and rivers flashing by, the reporter came to Linzhi from Lhasa for more than three hours. The Lalin Railway is the first electrified railway in Tibet, ending the history of no railways in southeastern Tibet.

This is not only a road to wealth, but also a road to environmental protection.

Luo Zhenping, chief engineer of the Lalin Railway Project of China Railway 19th Bureau, introduced that the Lalin Railway involves nature reserves, scenic spots, and many ancient and famous trees. The layout of temporary projects during construction is optimized to reduce the area of temporary projects by approximately 35%; technologies such as wildlife protection, scientific disposal of waste residues, and comprehensive ecological restoration are used to reduce the impact of construction on the environment along the line; use of high-cold planting and drip irrigation technology to create a green corridor that stretches for hundreds of miles.

Green is the most beautiful background color for high-quality development in Tibet. From “burning cow dung at every family” to “green electricity coming out of the plateau”, Tibet has contributed to the country’s goal of achieving carbon peaks and carbon neutrality. As of 2020, Tibet’s clean energy has reached 89.09% of the installed power generation capacity. From 2015 to the end of 2020, a total of 6.5 billion kWh of clean electricity has been sent out.

Sangdong Village, Jiacha County, Shannan City, Tibet, is less than 5 kilometers away from the Yarlung Zangbo River. The ecotourism service center in the village, completed in August 2020, has been open for operation for one year. “Eco-tourism not only brings considerable village collective income, but also protects the vegetation and landscape here.” The service center person in charge and village director Rob told reporters that Sangdong Village was lifted out of poverty in 2018, but the fruits grown by the villagers have not been sold. After paying a good price, they went out to work one after another. In 2019, the poverty alleviation working group of the Tibet Military Region and the Shannan Military Division visited and investigated the village. Many villagers suggested to learn from neighboring villages’ experience in opening auto repair plants and building rental houses. However, the poverty alleviation working group met with villagers’ representatives to discuss and decided that the Tibet Military Region would invest Funding, the “Sangdong Village Farmhouse” was changed to “Sangdong Village Ecotourism Service Center”.

Eat ecological rice and embark on the road to wealth. In the snow-covered plateau, the concept of “green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains, and ice and snow are also golden mountains and silver mountains” has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, and ecological benefits are constantly being transformed into economic and social benefits.
