Among these prestigious yet pricey institutions are Tufts University, Wellesley College, Boston University, and Yale University. Tuition fees alone for these schools range from $90,207 to $95,888, making them some of the most expensive in the country.
These staggering fees not only make it difficult for students to afford a quality education but also contribute to raising the national average for university tuition. New England colleges, in particular, charge more than twice the national average, which was reported to be $38,768 per year for private universities in 2023.
A report from the Center on Education and the Workforce at Georgetown University highlighted a 169% increase in the prices of programs at these institutions, far surpassing the 20% increase in average salaries for young adults during the same period.
