Udine, elderly woman killed at home. Three years ago she was stabbed by her son

A 74 year old woman, Lauretta Toffoli, she was found dead in the apartment where she lived in via della Valle in Udine. It was her son, Manuel Mason, to find the lifeless mother and immediately raise the alarm. The woman had several stab wounds. The health workers, the firefighters, the carabinieri and the police intervened on the spot, along with the Scientific. According to his son, televisions and other belongings kept inside have disappeared from the house. According to the coroner, the crime could date back to last night. The old woman’s son was taken to the police station to reconstruct the incident.

Three years ago the woman was stabbed by her son who today discovered the body and raised the alarm.
It was November 2019 when Manuel, 39 years old at the time, attacked his mother, severely stabbing her in the abdomen. The man then called 112 and was immediately arrested on charges of attempted murder: the following year, however, he was acquitted as declared unable to understand and want, as had been established by a psychiatric report.

The investigators, however, distinguish that case from the murder of the mother Lauretta, so much so that all the hypotheses are followed, including that of a robbery with unexpected consequences. As far as we know, some objects are missing from the apartment. The son is not currently the main suspect. The forensic police are completing the investigations and various testimonies are being found and viewing the cameras installed in the area.

“At the moment there is nothing crystallized: we are continuing the investigations and we are not directed towards a single solution. We are verifying numerous elements that do not converge in a single direction. The investigations are aimed at 360 degrees”, this is the declaration of the prosecutor of Udine, Massimo Lia. “According to an initial indication from the coroner – continues the prosecutor – the event would have occurred in the early hours of today”. As for the attack of the son against his mother three years ago, the Prosecutor states: “It is a precedent that we consider with great attention, but it is not an element that leads us to exclude all other hypotheses”
