Governor Carlos Amaya has a firm commitment to disaster risk management and mitigation of the impact that the El Niño Phenomenon has been generating in the department.

At the Departmental Unified Command Post (PMU), which was installed this Monday morning with the purpose of articulating inter-administrative processes, planning emergency response and undertaking joint actions to counteract the damage caused by the dry season and prevent further damage, The governor assured that it is essential to strengthen the machinery banks for disaster risk management in Boyacá.

The president indicated that efforts are being made before the National Government and the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management to leverage investment in machinery that allows for emergencies that occur in the department.

Faced with the task of extinguishing vegetation cover fires, the governor stated that, through the Departmental Council for Disaster Risk Management (CDGRD), support will continue.

It was also indicated that a specific request was made to the national government to be able to have a direct line that allows air support to be coordinated when needed in the department; In addition, progress must be made in the construction of reservoirs. Therefore, the departmental government invited the mayors to prioritize this issue and work very hard to mitigate the El Niño phenomenon and its impacts.

Meanwhile, Jaisson Carreño, director of the Departmental Council for Disaster Risk Management, urged the municipal authorities to abide by the circulars that the Government of Boyacá has issued so far regarding the issue of risk management and to respond to them within the terms established.

During the session, the requests and concerns presented by the mayors and secretaries of the municipalities were addressed regarding the loan of machinery and tank trucks to supply water to urban and rural communities where there is a shortage of the liquid.

According to the most recent report on climatic conditions issued by Ideam, 69 municipalities of Boyacá are on red alert due to the probability of vegetation cover fires, while 14 are on orange alert and 14 are on yellow alert.

From the CDGRD, meanwhile, they announced that during 2024, 24 forest fires have been reported in 17 municipalities.

“A total of 255 hectares of native vegetation have been consumed by the flames so far. The most recent occurs in the Guitarrilla village in Panqueba, which is being attended to by relief organizations in the area,” explained the director of the CDGRD.

Additionally, in several sectors of 18 municipalities, shortages of water resources are reported.

“The most critical point is recorded in Motavita, a municipality that declared a public calamity in mid-December of last year. Likewise, other populations have expressed their interest in declaring it,” he stated.

The Ideam, in turn, reported that Toca Chita, Paipa, Chita and Sogamoso are the municipalities where the lowest temperatures have been reported between December and January, even below zero degrees Celsius, a phenomenon to which it is necessary to pay attention now. which increases the possibility of frost occurrence.
