Now a fixed appointment since 2005 – the year of the first edition of the initiative – this year too the Network of Universities for Sustainable Development (RUS) promotes the national day “I light up less”, day of energy saving and sustainable lifestyles, launched by the Rai Radio2 program Caterpillar.

On 16 February the Mediterranean University, with the patronage of RUS, joins the initiative, symbolically turning off the lights of the Rectorate building from 6.30pm to 10.30pm. The photos will be published on the RUS website on the page dedicated to the initiative dedicated to “M’illumino di meno”.

At the center of “M’illumino di meno” 2024 there are two themes of growing importance in international energy and environmental policies: i) the reduction of consumption to limit environmental, social and economic impacts; ii) energy communities and the sharing of renewable and clean energy.

The Rector Prof. Giuseppe Zimbalatti declares: “The Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria joins the initiative to raise awareness among the academic community about reducing energy consumption. A symbolic step towards the sobriety of our consumption behaviors, to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and, therefore, environmental justice for current and future generations.”

The professor Marina Mistretta, delegate of the Magnificent Rector to the RUS and member of the Coordination Committeeadds: “This year the 20th edition of M’illumino di meno Day is aimed at everyone and bears the title No borders because the actions to be taken in the ecological transition path must be without borders. The objective is to raise awareness among all of us of the importance of a greater commitment to environmental sustainability, sharing a cause without borders. We, as an academic community, must maintain our role as agents of change and be the driving force behind the realization of sustainable development goals in our territory”.
