The body of the 5-year-old boy who died on Tuesday morning was subjected to an autopsy whose preliminary data reveal that he died of asphyxiation, confirming the information that was being handled. Investigators point to his mother as the main suspect in the homicide that occurred in Asunción.
The forensic doctor Pablo Lemir told the media on Tuesday afternoon that the body of the 5-year-old boy, who died in the morning, has no signs of blows.
“There are no signs of blows to the neck, chest, or abdomen, the only injuries that the little body has on the outside are the medical injuries, that is, where the peripheral line was placed to try to revive it and about cardiopulmonary resuscitation,” he said.
He explained that, examining the internal part of the body, there are signs of asphyxiation and small bites on the inside of the lips, tongue and pulmonary edema.
“The left lung is much heavier than it should be, even heavier than the right lung, when it should be lighter and has hemorrhage at the level of a hemothorax on the left side,” he added.
He mentioned that most of these signs, as well as cerebral congestion, that entered are compatible with asphyxiation and the lesions on the lips give the indication that they are facing a probable event of mechanical asphyxiation and the most likely obstruction of the respiratory orifices.
The coroner said they took samples of all the organs removed from the body and a pathology report will be available within 30 days.
The conclusion they have is that they blocked his nostrils, which led to his death this Tuesday morning inside his home located on Perú and Santo Domingo streets, in Asunción.
When asked if he had signs of malnutrition, he said no and he did not have any old injuries that would suggest that he was an abused child.

For his part, Commissioner Abel Cantero, head of the Homicide Department of the National Police, told NPY that several elements were found inside the house with which the child’s death could have been caused.
“At the moment we have the victim’s mother as the only suspect, who is giving her statement at the Public Ministry and I understand that she will be charged in the case,” he said.
He said that the woman is the “only suspect” because she stated that two criminals allegedly entered her home to commit a robbery and killed her son, however, the closed circuit cameras do not show the presence of third parties.
“We have confirmed that it is a homicide, we are focusing on the main suspect and gathering as much evidence as possible regarding her,” he concluded.
As part of the investigation, the Public Ministry ordered the arrest of the child’s mother identified as Shirley Paola Santacruz, 28 years old.
In the early hours of the morning, the woman asked a merchant for help, stating that two men entered the tenement where she lives to assault her and that one of them suffocated her son because he would not stop crying.
The child was rushed to the Barrio Obrero Hospital, where he arrived without signs of life, as confirmed to Radio Monumental 1080 by Dr. Adán Godoy, director of the healthcare center.
