The judicial process against former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez continues to advance after the prosecutor delegated to the Supreme Court of Justice filed an indictment.

The indictment arises after the dismissal of two preclusion requests presented by different prosecutors and evaluated by competent circuit criminal judges. According to the office in charge of the file for three months, the physical evidence and the probative material elements collected support this decision.

«Based on physical evidence and evidentiary material elements collected and studied by the office to which this file corresponded by distribution three months ago, a prosecutor delegated to the Supreme Court of Justice filed an indictment against former senator Álvaro Uribe Vélez, as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of bribery of witnesses in criminal proceedings and procedural fraud,” declared the Prosecutor’s Office.

Once the distribution process is completed at the Judicial Services Center of the Paloquemao Judicial Complex in Bogotá and the criminal court of the competent circuit has been assigned, the hearing to formalize the accusation will be held. In this instance, a date and time will be set for the oral debate to take place.

The Attorney General’s Office reiterated its commitment to the right to due process in all actions under its responsibility. “Now, the investigated person and his defense, the special agent of the Attorney General’s Office and those who claim to be victims with their attorneys, will have the opportunity to request evidence and participate in the oral debate with practice and incorporation,” he added. the official statement from the Prosecutor’s Office.
