Vaccine at school, the principals «Clarity and certain times» – breaking latest news

SALERNO. Beyond the decisions that will be taken by the government, the Salerno principals are asking for clarity in view of the start of the new school year. And, above all, do it quickly, so as not to start teaching in the presence of a thousand doubts and as many difficulties. Because to this day we still don’t know what tomorrow will have in store from a scholastic point of view. There is discussion about the possibility of admitting only students who have completed the vaccination cycle to school, as well as pushing for all school staff to be immunized. This latter problem does not seem to concern Campania, a region in which, according to the latest data, almost 100% of teachers would have been injected with the first dose and 90.5% the second. A much higher percentage than the national average which is 72.9%.
The perplexities of the principals. If, therefore, the professors are vaccinated, the same cannot be said for the students. Because in Campania, in the 12-18 year old category, only 23.9% were immunized. A trend that everyone hopes will grow in the coming days and reach significant heights in view of the ringing of the bell. Also because it seems unlikely that a legal obligation could come about for the administration of the vaccine for minors. «It is difficult that it will be possible to have – underlines Carmela Santarcangelo, head teacher of the“ Tasso ”classical high school in Salerno – a legal obligation. It was not done for health personnel, I don’t see how it can materialize for school personnel. On the contrary, getting vaccinated should be a moral as well as a civic duty. If you want to be back in attendance, without interruption, then everyone should get immunized, including students. Otherwise, otherwise, around the corner there will always be the specter of mixed teaching and we will be condemned to another year of uncertainty, when instead the sense of responsibility should push everyone to do their part ».
“The government decides soon.” The school administrators, however, are awaiting input from the Ministry and the Scientific Technical Committee, as well as from the government. Because without precise rules you risk chaos. Franca Masi, head teacher of the Higher Education Institute “Della Corte – Vanvitelli” in Cava de ‘Tirreni, is convinced of this. “To date – he highlights – we school leaders do not know how we will go back to school. I believe that, precisely on this aspect, we must clarify as soon as possible, so as not to arrive unprepared for the eve of the new school year ». Clear rules. Only when everything is written down and you know how to behave, then you can tell the parents too. «In any case – remarked Barbara Figliolia, head teacher of the“ Severi ”high school in Salerno – I don’t feel like not accepting unvaccinated children, as removing the right to study from a student is an important decision. And, honestly, I don’t want to be in this situation. In any case, I will stick to the indications that will come from the Ministry. I only wish they were precise and without the risk of being misunderstood ».
Childhood and primary. The possibility of being able to accept only vaccinated students, however, particularly concerns high schools and marginally inclusive institutions or didactic directions. Because children aged 3 to 12 are vaccine-free. «We are following the debate with great interest – emphasizes Teresa Staiano, head teacher of the Second Institute including Nocera Inferiore – and we are ready to apply all the measures that will be adopted. Also because we are not health workers but school workers ».
