Venezuelans went too far when simulating a vehicle accident in Miami, but the lie fell through

Five individuals were arrested in Miami for allegedly staging a fake car accident in order to commit insurance fraud. Yefferson Martínez Rodríguez, Laura Marcela Gaitán, Wilmer Parra Viloria, Luis Alfredo Cabrera Salas, and Christian Ortiz Muñoz were accused of intentionally colliding two vehicles to file false insurance claims.

The incident reportedly took place on April 16 at 24th Street and Southwest 97th Avenue. Martínez called the authorities claiming that his Honda Civic had been rear-ended by a Nissan Sentra, driven by Ortiz Muñoz with his accomplices Cabrera and Parra in the car.

The group’s scheme was to create falsified documentation to submit to their insurance companies and benefit from personal injury protection. The arrests were made following an investigation into the suspicious circumstances surrounding the alleged accident.
