Venice-Monaco cycle path, eleven million for the Vittorio Veneto section

The Miatto council approves the feasibility project: the route will unfold from Fadalto to San Giacomo di Veglia. “We aim to make it before the Cortina Olympics”

VITTORIO VENETO. The “Friendship Cycle Route”, which descends from Munich and arrives in Venice, is 560 kilometers long. Vittorio Veneto will equip itself with a 12-kilometer stretch, 10 of which will be new. The Miatto council has fired the feasibility project, signed by the engineer Massimo Cervo di Sedico, which foresees an investment of 11 million (against the 15 hypothesized again last year).

Eight million is the expenditure related to the construction, three million for technical expenses, of which 775 thousand euros for expropriations. Mayor Antonio Miatto hopes that the itinerary will be ready for the Cortina Olympics in 2026. The cycle path descends from the Fadalto and crosses the city, and then heads towards Conegliano, but a route along the Meschio and up to the Livenza, then towards Cordignano and Sacile, and then extends to Bibione, Lignano, Aquileia, Grado, and Trieste.

The track, skirting the lake of Santa Croce, climbs to the Fadalto pass, and here it will have two branches: one for Fadalto basso, inside the villages; the second for the characteristic village of Caloniche, until it joins the first near Lake Morto. The route will unfold at the foot of the Visentin, facing the lake, then it will exit at Nove, reaching Lake Restello, and then descending to Lake San Floriano. From here it will travel along the banks of the Meschio river, up to Serravalle, where it will join the existing cycle / pedestrian path. This track arrives in San Giacomo and from here it could enter and cross the territory of Colle Umberto, of Cordignano and reach the Livenza between Caneva and Polcenigo, and then descend to Sacile.

From San Giacomo the Friendship Cycle Route will reach the Menarè, joining the route already completed, up to the border with San Vendemiano. There are tens of thousands of cyclists who have been arriving on two wheels from Germany and Austria for years now. The 560 kilometers are a quick itinerary, to be completed in about ten days. Quick but sometimes severe. The entire stretch involves 3,000 meters of elevation gain. The overall itinerary is for the most part already practicable, taking advantage of local cycle paths. Some excerpts still remain to be defined, such as that of Vittorio Veneto, and, upstream, between Pieve di Cadore and Longarone. «Cycle tourism is booming. On the occasion of the upcoming Ascension and Pentecost holidays, our streets will be filled with German visitors on two wheels. Our city intends to organize itself to offer the most comfortable welcome, making equipped routes available, but also an up-to-the-minute receptivity. Then it will also be necessary to provide mechanical services – notes Miatto -. The cycle route is also appreciated because it is served by bus and train ».
