These are busy days for Donald Trump. Only after winning the primary in Iowa did the former president fly to New York for the trial of author E. Jean Carroll. The judge must determine how much compensation he must pay.

It is not the first time that Trump has had to defend himself in the case. E. Jean Carroll had previously accused the former president of raping her in a fitting room in the Bergdorf Goodman luxury department store in Manhattan in the mid-1990s. For this, the former president was sentenced on May 9 of last year to pay damages of 5 million dollars (4.6 million euros). He appealed, and a ruling is not expected soon.
That case will continue with a new trial on Tuesday in the Manhattan courthouse. This time it will have to be determined how much compensation Trump must pay the writer for the defamation he committed by publicly denying that rape took place. He railed against her in 2019, when he was president, when she filed a lawsuit against him. She is now demanding another 10 million dollars (9 million euros).
Protesters
The 80-year-old Carroll was met at the courthouse in Manhattan by a handful of demonstrators, who supported her and raised signs criticizing Trump. Jury selection will begin in that building on Tuesday. Donald Trump previously indicated that he wants to be present during the trial and also wants to testify, and he has already arrived at the building.
It is just one of many lawsuits he will have to defend himself in in the coming months, in between campaigning.
It is expected that Trump will once again appeal against the damages imposed on him. It could be the start of a years-long procedural battle.
