A concerned neighbor raised the alarm in an apartment building in Villach around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday: a smoke alarm could be heard from an apartment and the smell of fire was already noticeable. Several fire departments responded immediately. They already knew the operational address: the fire brigades had to go there a week earlier.
Because there was no response to the knock, the door was opened using a hydraulic door opening tool. The tenant was rescued by the respiratory protection team Villach main fire station brought outside, says Martin Regenfelder, deputy commander of the main fire station. The lady was handed over to the emergency services for further treatment. Once again, burnt food on the stove was found to be the cause of the smoke.
Charred leftover food
The charred remains of the food were removed and the apartment was blown smoke-free using a high-performance fan. In addition to the main fire station, the FF Judendorf and the locally responsible FF Völkendorf were also on duty, as were the police and the Red Cross.
