After the avalanche on Friday, the workers of the Municipality, this morning, December 18, placed the barriers in Fais, six kilometers from the summit. The mayor: “We don’t venture into these conditions”

VITTORIO VENETO. Closed in the morning, December 18, the road that climbs to the 1763 meters of the Col Visentin. Lhe local police of Vittorio Veneto went up to 6 kilometers from the summit, near Pian dei Grassi, and here they blocked the road with a barrier, white-red tape and a large sign saying “Road closed due to avalanche”. It happened, in fact, that just above, on Friday afternoon, there was a detachment of 20 cubic meters of snow that blocked a car that was going down, so the firefighters and carabinieri had to rush.

«The snow that has recently fallen is coming loose from the walls – says Denis Bellotti, who manages the Col Visentin Refuge, right at the top of the mountain -. The mantle, between 30 and 40 centimeters high, slips on the dry grass below with the rising temperatures. The road, which is kept open by a private individual especially for Rai, which has an important repeater on the Visentin, in the hottest hours of the day is hammered by small avalanches that can represent some inconvenience for those who get on ». However, Bellotti also recommends the “necessary prudence”. Up to Pian dei Grassi the road, apart from these inconveniences, was passable until before the ban imposed yesterday by the Municipality of Vittorio Veneto. “The refuge remains open, because – explains Bellotti – it is mainly frequented by the Nevegal”. Near the refuge, there is the Rai antenna and then there is a control tower of the armed forces. «We know that the road is to be considered impassable when there is snow. We decided to highlight the closure with a sign and a barrier »explains Mayor Miatto.
